This is probably one of my last blog posts with Blogger. (Thank you Blogger!) sniff...sniff. I am so SUPER excited to show you my new blog! COMING SOON! (can't you just smell the suspense?!?!?)

Pica + Family is our January "Woof of the Month"!

Pica is a Beautiful odd-eyed Samoyed/Husky/Malamute mix from Denver. She plays ball with Anne + Matt (and their new edition Evan - Mr. Cute Pants).

Lately, I have had lots of people requesting me to photograph their family or engagement sessions. The answer is "YES! BUT my one request is that your dog or cat be with you" AND be prepared to have a "creative twist" to your family photos ~ See Photo Below

Rico - Big Wet Puppy

Rico is a sweet golden retriever puppy trapped in an an adult dog body. Kind of like a teenager waking up in the morning to nice long legs and unsure how to use them. Rico is limber and quick but still not quite sure of the size of his new body.

Rico (Suave - whew! I just had to get that off my chest!) dotes on his owner's every word. Greg is the owner and a good friend.
Greg lost his golden one year ago. It was due time for a new golden in his life! I am so happy for Greg and the new puppy in his life!I was honored to photograph the new member in his family! Thank you Greg!

Photobooks + Fun with Light Tents

So this is what happens when I get something new ~ I use it A LOT! So the light tent is a semi-permanent fixture on my dining room/art table. The cats are very intrigued (and slightly confused) with this giant white structure.

I just got in a super fantastic "Coffee Table" photo book for one of my fav clients. I just had to e-mail her photos of it (even though she will see it in a few days!).

I just LOVE how it turned out! (I get excited about the littlest things!)

It started with the luscious blues and rich browns on the cover and moved to the high glossy pages that seem to gently slip through my fingers... The dogs look great and the book has a nice solid weight - perfect for a cup of coffee with friends and ready for lots of "ohs and ahs" with friends and family.

New 2010 Photo Packaging

I LOVE my new photo packaging for 2010! My husband surprised me with custom printed pizza boxes (sizes 10", 12", 14", 16") for my photos and canvases this year. What a sweetheart! As a side note: my husband and I own a local pizza box printing company in Denver.

This was completely his idea. One day this fall, I was talking about customizing photo boxes for my clients. He started to laugh and said, "why don't you just put the photos in one of our pizza boxes?". Well....yeah I guess that would work. He didn't mention it again (sneaky guy).

I have yet to put a canvas in one but I am SUPER excited to try it out on my next customer order.

What a wonderful (and thoughtful) surprise! Thank you!

PS I also got a chance to try out my new Light Tent. The set up is called the "Cowboy Studio". Strange name but great setup. Lights were plenty powerful and the light tent is HUGE. My 4 year old wanted to get in it and play (that idea was nixed immediately!).

So what do you guys think?

"Pics + Pups" Day

"Pups + Pics" Day is a day I spend with a dog walker from Pupsicles Dog Care (www.pupsiclesdogcare.com).

The morning was filled with freezing our *tails* off, hanging out by fire hydrants, googling over the CUTEST dogs in the world, throwing toys, being *body checked* by larger dogs and then freezing our *tails* off again.

Lauren, the lucky dog walker for the morning was hilarious and genuinely cared about each dog. Especially Baloo - may he rest in peace....

Who could not love a little yellow lab puppy? Roux was about as CUTE as they get? Eating and playing with everything that moved for her little potty break.

As Lauren would say, "Roux is Stinkin' Cute!"

Of course - we found a fire hydrant to make MORE yellow (he, he)

I was playing around with some BW techniques and I got this little gem ~ I definitely had to stop and catch my breath with this image....

FLOPPY lab ears + SOFT Gallop + Major "Body Checking" ~ I think this is right before Oliver "body checked" me. He did it maybe 2 or 3 times and then I was deemed OK to hang out with him and Lucy. What a "doggie" character!

Lauren made some crazy noise and I think it startled Oliver ~ look at that ALERT standst!

This was Baloo (like the Jungle Book) ~ he was a 14 year old chow. I spent just a few moments with him. He never got up when I was there. He just sat at the sliding door unmoving....staring out the sliding door...As I photographed him ~ I could *feel* peace within him. I never got to meet him again. He passed away last Sunday peaceful with his mom.

Rest in Peace Baloo ~ You are in a better place with unlimited treats and belly rubs...

Sophia is our December "Woof of the Month"!

I met Sophia at a dog training session with Mindy Jarvis (Dog Trainer Extraordinaire) from Noble Beast (www.noblebeast.info). Sophia would stop and give me "the look" and then trot away like "Jock", the Scottish Terrier in Lady and the Tramp.

I LOVED the Texture + Fur + Personality Sophia dispayed in the short time we were together. Thank you Sophia!

"Every now and then you meet someone so passionate and excited about their job that it just radiates off them and draws you in to their light. Jaime Rowe is one of those people. A relatively new addition to the Denver scene, Jaime Rowe is your dog’s best friend. Your cat’s too. Next time your dog, or cat, does that impossibly cute thing that makes your heart melt and your eyes smile, think of Jaime. She’s Denver’s hottest new pet photographer.

Looking at the gallery of pictures that Jaime has taken and hearing her tell the stories behind each and every one I was struck by the glow in her voice. When I called her out on it she blushed and admitted, “I take so much personal pleasure, I almost feel selfish.” But looking at the photos the first thing that struck me was how completely blissed out her clients were. Jaime isn’t your average pet photographer. She doesn’t have a studio and she shies away from stiff portrait photos. “I want to capture the essence of each animal, that thing that the owner loves the most, the happiest moments when they’re really just in their element.”

Jaime reminds me that our time with our pets is short, something that people often forget. She likes knowing that she is giving her clients a precious moment, frozen in time, that will be theirs to keep forever. In order to accomplish this Jaime sends every new client a brief questionnaire so she can get to know her subjects even before she begins the photo shoot. It asks things like “What is your name, and how did you get it?” “What kind of dog/cat are you, what do you look like?” “What are your favorite things to do?” “Are you an introvert or an extrovert?” “If you had to describe your personality in one color, what color would it be?” Then Jaime goes through the answers looking for things that will make the photo shoot fun for each pet and meaningful for each “parent”.

But why hire a professional? Your iPhone takes pictures, right? Sure, but it won’t get down on the ground and roll in the grass with your dog waiting for that perfect moment to snap. It won’t catch that perfect prance just as your best friend realizes you’re home and comes bounding over to say hello. And it sure can’t capture all of you playing together in the glow of a golden Rocky Mountain sunset. Jaime’s pictures tell a story. Her artistry not only captures a memory, it elevates it, each picture conveying the irrepressible joy that our pets give us. Jaime offers more than just your average print package too. “My biggest seller is my canvasses; they last forever and are really top quality.” She also offers beautiful hard cover photo books, calendars, cards and more.

Mindy ~ Noble Beast ~ Dog Trainer Extraordinaire

Watching Mindy from Noble Beast (http://www.noblebeast.info) train dogs is like watching two professional dancers doing the tango (Yes - visualizing "Dancing with the Stars" works too). I had the pleasure of attending one of her classes at the Playful Pooch by Stapleton (www.playfulpoochusa.com). Will & Brenda Miller (the friendliest people in the world) have one of the cleanest doggie daycares I have ever walked into (I mean WOW clean!).

Mindy carefully instructs the class and then has the owners work on one skill at a time. Mindy walks around the room and gives *serious* One-On-One attention to each "dog"mate. Each dog also received "Puppy Paper Homework" at the end! Too cute!

Big Dogs Huge Paws Rescue + Denver Nuggets

Big Dogs + Denver Nuggets + Lots of Slobber? Of course, I am there! (I admit...I could do a little WITHOUT the slobber part) ;-)

The Big Dogs Huge Paws Rescue organization held an event to help rescue dogs find "forever" homes at a Nuggets game right before Thanksgiving. A fab idea that helped two of the dogs from that night find forever homes!

OK - Floppy ears on a Great Dane make my heart TOTALLY melt. I sat and looked at this photo FOREVER ~

These were my two little helpers for the night with Brutus. Look at his ribs ~ he was found starving and tied up in a backyard a week before this photo was taken. Thank goodness he was rescued and I hear that he is a VERY healthy eater now. ;-)

Coffee With Gittel

Coffee with "supermodel" Gittel was a treat in and of itself ~ Gittel was part of the first "Pups + Pics" day with the fab Suzy Costello of Pupsicles http://www.pupsiclesdogcare.com/, dog walking/care.

I think I scared my friend Suzy a little when I showed up in hot pink sunglasses with a little *bling* on the corners (for the record - I was driving my husband's car and these were the ONLY sunglasses available ~ yes...very weird I know).
Pics + Pups Days are mornings I spend with Suzy or another one of her dog walkers visiting with pups, taking a few pictures, and giving lots of belly rubs.

Peek-A-Woof Meadow + Summit

“Sparkle Farkle” (aka Meadow) + Summit – Before meeting these two big, gorgeous Bernese mountain dogs, the owner, Bev had warned me about Summit. He takes his time meeting you and just “needs to be ignored at first” said Bev. Meadow, on the hand, would come right over and give love as if she were your best friend forever (oh, and her nickname is “Sparkle Farkle”) said Bev. I immediately knew who was “Sparkle Farkle” as Meadow rushed over to meet me with those big, brown Berner eyes. Summit took his time sniffling me and my bag of goodies but I was soon accepted to the “pack” and he was ready to play in the snow faster than I could say “cheese” (Okay – just for the record…I NEVER ask the dogs to say “cheese” but I might have cheese in my purse on some occasions).

I just could not stop looking at this pic - I think it is the angle of the foot with the gorgeous red in the back? I just love it ~

Peek-A-Woof Koda & Kaia

Boisterous Koda & Mighty Kaia – I don’t think I have ever met a Bernese that was SO excited about…well…EVERYTHING! All 75 + lbs of her met me at the door ready to go. Kaia, on the other hand, decided to hang out in Amanda’s room until Koda checked out this new stranger. After everyone calmed down and sniffed every lens in my bag, Koda and Kaia were ready for their “close-ups”.

Koda was happy to consume ALL of my attention while Mighty little Kaia was brushed aside. We decided to rotate the girls so everyone had equal “red carpet” time. Our morning consisted of “borrowing” snow from the neighbor’s yard for some snow shoots (thank you people I don’t know!), globs of peanut butter (he, he) and taking a brief stroll down Old Pearl Street.

A very FAB store called “5 Green Boxes” (www.5greenboxes.com) let us use their BEAU-TI-FUL store front. Lots of turquoise & lime greens caught our eye as we perused this little “treasure” of an area near Washington Park. It was a delightful morning with Amanda & her Boisterous and Mighty ladies!

I just "happened" to be laying flat on the sidewalk to capture this gem!

Sneak Peek Mile High Dog Magazine Cover

I just completed the cover shoot for the Mile High Dog Magazine cover and I PROMISED not to share the cover photo until the magazine releases in December. I did NOT (however) promise to release any photos of the adorable cover models that I took during the photo session breaks. Okay - so I have a doggie "thing" for Beignet...okay well frenchies. I didn't know a lot about the breed and now that I have met Beaujolais and Beignet (BTW - Brie, Bullion and Biscuit live with them- all frenchies) I cannot get enough of them. (Yes - my name is Jaime Rowe and I am addicted to frenchies). So...I took at few shoots of Beignet during the photo breaks at the Kanon Collective Gallery (www.kanonart.com) on Santa Fe. They have the most amazing little courtyard with these rockin red doors (I so LOVE happy, bright colors!)

Introducing the Cat Care Society's 2010 Calendar Cover

Sanchez, Mr. tuxedo kitty, graces the cover of the Cat Care Society's 2010 Calendar! (http://www.catcaresociety.org/)

I had the honor of being part of the Cat Care Society's Live Auction at their annual dinner in September of this year. The Cover and one Month of the 2010 Calendar was auctioned off to help feed and shelter homeless cats in the Denver area.

I had the pleasure (truly it was my pleasure) to meet Bob, the owner of Sanchez and Ponder and photograph them in the warm kitchen of the place they call home. Sanchez and Ponder were both rescue kitties that are now VERY well cared for in every way (attention, toys, excellent food and most importantly LOVE). Bob has a very special loving connection with his boys and his love and positive personality permeates his warm, loving home. I told Bob that when I die (knock on wood), I want to come back as one of his cats! Thank you Bob for sharing your time, your "boys" and your support of the Cat Care Society!

Peek-A-Woof Heidi

Genuine Beauty - Last Thursday, I spent an active morning with Heidi, a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog and her best friend Stella. If we were not hunting squirrels, playing in the river, chasing empty water bottles then we were delightfully rolling in the grass - Sweet Bliss! What a life! Thank you Melissa (Heidi's mom) for a wonderful light-hearted morning!

After much deliberating between the judging committee, we came down to 2 lucky winners for the Cover Dog Contest for Mile High Dog Magazine. The winners are two adorable little French Bulldogs - Beaujolais & Biegnet! The proud owner is Marleen Puzak. Congratulations! We also have our Top 15 dogs! Every dog and owner out there deserves a SPECIAL THANK YOU for braving the cold and supporting a great cause! Thank You! You are ALL Winners! Woof!

Chaska - an Honorable Mention for an ol' lady that has given her owner years of loyalty and love...I see the memories in those warm brown eyes...Thank you Debbie ;-)

Is your dog "Cover Model" material? Jaime Rowe Photography, Mile High Dog Magazine and Bow Wow Buddies Foundation teamed up to search for that "special" dog to grace the 2009 Winter Edition Mile High Dog Magazine. The following images are all participants that signed up and donated $5 to the Bow Wow Buddies Foundation on Oct. 10th, 2009 at the "K-9's Against Cancer" 5K & 1 Mile Fun Walk.

Bow Wow Buddies - K-9's Against Cancer 5K & COVER DOG CONTEST

The "K-9's Against Cancer" 5K/1 Mile Fun Walk was a wild success for all the dog lovers that braved the snow/icy conditions and 20 degree weather. What happened to Colorado sunny weather? Apparently, the weather "gods" had other plans. This didn't stop the DEDICATED dog lovers of Denver! No sir. Hundreds of people showed up to support the Bow Wow Buddies Foundation, Komen Foundation the CSU Canine Cancer Center. The great love for our four-legged family companions WARMED Stapleton Park that morning. :-)

The day started at 6am when my friend and second shooter, Sarah Cutright of Blue Ghost Studios (www.blueghoststudio.com) called me and told me that she had lost control of her car and plowed down a sign on I-285 coming out of the mountains by Morrison. She (bravely) maneuvered her car back on the highway and proceded to watch other people do 360s and other wild icy unintentional stunts. After Sarah got to our house - we patted her down and made sure that she was in one piece and then assessed the damages. OK - I don't have a picture of the scratch on her bumper but let's just say that a bumper sticker that looked like a band-aid would cover it (the crazy part is that Sarah told me she USED TO have a bumper sticker that looked like a band-aid...riiiigggghhttt).
We got on the highway to head over to the 5K and we were detoured off the highway 2 times because of major accidents. Here is a photo of us directed off the highway for the second time... notice the flares (this was very exciting to my husband who said that if he was a cop that day that he would light all the flares and dance around...) Never a dull moment at our house ~

Suzy Costello from Pupsicles Dog Care (www.pupsiclesdogcare.com) was our booth buddy (I LOVE booth buddies!). Thank you Suzy for letting us steal your dog treats for some of the shots! The Cover Dog Contestants were so grateful for a little snack on such a cold day!

Peek-A-Woof Jazz

Athletic & Proud –Jazz is a black Labrador that loves nature and everything Colorado. His list of activities includes: hiking, skijoring, riding in the car, and hanging out with mom and dad in Colorado. You can see by his strength and proud nature that he gets the most out of life as a black Labrador in Colorado. Having a Labrador myself, I have felt the love and loyalty of a Labrador and being with Jazz - you can definitely feel his love for his parents, Greg and Kim. I was honored to be part of their Saturday morning hike on Mt. Falcon.

Pugs In the Park 2009

Pugs, Pugs, Pugs EVERYWHERE! I met fawn pugs, black pugs, apricot pugs, puggles, cross-breeds, sideways breeds and even a Grand Pyrenees showed up! I enjoyed every pug tail twist and extra L-O-N-G pink pug tongue! I took so many pictures today that I could not possibly fit them on my blog so I picked my FAV 7 and then made an online gallery for all of the pictures. The winner of the Pug Costume Contest was the Mexican Pug Sombrero duo. Unfortunately, I did not get over to the winner's circle fast enough to see the 2nd Place Winner - A Baked Potato (I guess you had to SEE it!) and 3rd Place - the Darth Vader pug.

Peek-A-Woof Pica

Playful, Beautiful and a Foot-Licker?

I spent a lovely afternoon with Anne, Matt and their new baby Evan in their Denver backyard last week. Pica, their 50% Samoyed and a little mix of Husky + Malamute, was *Center Stage* for her photo shot. She eyes were shining a brilliant blue and a warm chocolate brown for the camera. It just doesn’t get better than stunning odd-eyed dogs! LOVE THEM!

There was lots of laughing and a few bouts of crying (but that was from baby Evan!).

Look at that beautiful "white puff-ball" tail. LOVE IT!

Peek-A-Woof Mulder + Coney

Jaime Rowe Photography Trouble, Trouble and More Trouble…These two Trouble-Makers did nothing but bite, wrestle, bark and well….*Be Puppies* during their photo shoot. These two puppies (5 months old) happen to be very important dogs. They are part of the Operation Freedom ...program for the Freedom Service Dog Program (http://www.freedomservicedogs.org). The program is designed to help returning military personnel and war veterans through their transition from active duty and combat to civilian life.

This was most of the shoot - either Coney was sitting quietly (like right now) or Mulder was looking at the camera. They were very naughty boys!

Coney had this crazy tongue that kept slipping over the side. Apparently he was taking a little break in-between attacking his brother, Mulder.

I love these shoes! Look at the pup's position of his right foot. LOVE IT!

I needed a little *bum* action - look at the little swirls around their bums! Like little frosting swirls on a cake ~

Mulder and Coney, are both labradoodles from a litter of 14! Their very generous “foster” parents are Sarah and Brian. Sarah mentioned that, “[They are] very intelligent - they enjoy rough-housing, long naps, and eating elk poop...” Who doesn’t like those hobbies?

Cat Care Society 21st Annual Fundraiser

What a success! The Cat Care Society raised over $28,000 at their Annual Cat Care Society Fundraiser last Sat. night! I was honored to be part of the festivities and took pictures for this sweet and kind group of kitty lovers. I also had an opportunity to "test run" my husband has an assistant (and it was so awesome!). The hamster is definitely running on its wheel with this information....

I love finding people in the crowd who are having a ball ~ their laughter and smiles are so genuine...

I love this guy! He was the LIVE Auction announcer and he is one of the reasons they raised so much money. He was so sweet to me and really "raised the roof" when they auctioned off my 2010 Calendar Cover. They expected it to go for $1000 but he got it up to $1500 and everyone was clapping as the price went higher...super adrenaline rush. Thanks Mr. Auctioneer Man ~

Dinner was top-notch! They had the most amazing turkey and pasta mixes made "per request" ~ I shoveled them in during a photo break (happy gulping). The Cat Care Society knows how to do it right!

Doc's 10th Birthday

Doc turns 10! My sweet ol' girl Doc has finally put a decade behind her (sigh). Doc started her life with us in Colorado, moved to Illinois, back to Colorado, tolerated two toddlers pulling her tail, been pushed around by two crazy cats, traveled on countless hikes and road trips (with full tongue extension and wind blowing in her ears!). Doc has been there to lick our tears and is always there to give us “the look” (head cocked to the side with ears propped up) just at the right time. She is the “rock” in the family – Happy Birthday Doc!

We stopped by Three Dog Bakery (www.threedogbakery.com) in Greenwood Village and picked up 2 tasty treats - "doggie" carrot cake and PB ice cream! Doc gave them two paws up!

Yippeee! A Surprise (I LOVE surprises!) What did we pick out for you Doc?

Nakita & the Cookie!

Nakita and the Cookie! Do you like cookies? (If you answered No, then stop reading this and immediately head to the closest bakery and indulge in a Creamy, Chewy, Melt-In-Your-Mouth chocolate chip delight). Okay I am definitely hungry today! On the day I bought squeaky toys for my dog shoots, I went to the pet store on an empty stomach (BTW – this is never a good idea). I am a sugar addict and this was a bad choice on my part. Anyway – I was picking out a squeaky toy for my barking clients and I saw this double cream cookie sandwich (salivation starts HERE) and it happened to be a squeaky toy too! Of course, I bought it immediately! I usually don’t show toys in my pictures but after I reviewed Nakita’s shoots – I had to include them!

Peek-A-Boo Nakita!

Nakita is a 13 year old husky. Her proud owners walk her every day (except holidays according to Steve, her “person”). She is in incredible shape for her age (No cookie snacks for this beauty!). BTW – Aren’t her eyes AMAZING?!?!?

Last Memorial Day weekend, I had the pleasure of meeting a fine artist at a friend's gathering in Denver. Her name is Nicola Grun (with a fabulous South Africa accent!). After sharing some drinks, snacks and chatting about dogs (which all of my conversations seem to circle around too!). I knew there was something special about her. I discovered her passion for art specifically painting. I stole a glance at her work (gasp!) and I was dumbstruck. Simple lines and classic ideas yet modern edge with moments of mystery... Here is one of her fine works (of course I asked for a dog painting sample!).

Here is a little more information about her: "I was born and raised in South Africa and moved to the USA with my family at the end of 1994 during my high school years. I live in the Mile High City – Denver, Colorado. I have written numerous articles for various publications particularly focusing on fine arts, and two years ago began taking painting classes at the Art Students League of Denver. In my spare time I also enjoy biking, playing tennis, snowboarding, cooking, baking, more baking…did I mention baking?…and spending time with friends and family. I serve on the Board of Directors of PHAMALY – www.phamaly.org – and frequently volunteer for the Colorado Aids Project. Send me an email at plum2paint@gmail.com."

"Kitz & Katz in Hollywood" Fundraiser

Arguss + Cody - Together Forever

Arguss and Cody – Together Forever ~ Have you ever had two pets that were inseparable? Arguss and Cody are two 13 year old black Labrador brothers. “Arguss and Cody are very arthritic and both have survived one bout of cancer,” (brave little guys!) accordingly to their owner Erin and David.

Their sweet white faces greeted me on a warm, sunny Saturday morning. I have a personal affection for Labradors because I have an ol’ lab girl myself (“The Doctor”). Labradors are Pleasers and Lovers and these brothers were no exception to the “Lab” rule.

They hiked up stairs and walked all over the yeard - they were such great sports - now it is time for a little water break - right Arguss?

They paraded around together ~ side by side ~ like good brothers do.

I had to laugh because everything they sat down – they always touched. Even their sweet old paws.

Tails too!

I just can’t get enough of those faces – full of Time and Legacy.

Together again ~

I wonder what Cody is thinking...

I know that their time to limited on this earth but for the time being ~ they are brothers and they will always be together...

Moushu - Carefree + Light

Carefree + Light ~ Have you been around someone that is just Simply Happy? Someone who even has a slight “prance” in their stride? Look at that prance!

Moushu, a Llasa Apso mix was adopted by his owners, Roberta & Aaron when he was a one-year old pup from the Denver Dumb Friends League (LOVE that place!). (He is now a ripe 11 years old and his 12th birthday is on Valentine’s Day! So fitting for Moushu!)I can't get over that tooth!!!!!!

Roberta commented, “The woman who gave him up said he never barked and she wanted a watch dog!”

Everyone needs a little *bum* shot...

So adorable!

Moushu is just pure happiness...

Poor Moushu! It is tough being in the spotlight! Time for a nap ~

Moushu also has a tattoo on his inner leg of a 1 in a triangle…hmmmm. Roberta thought that this might represent the fact that he could’ve been a “show breed” but she was not sure. Well Moushu definitely has an impressive presence full of simple Happiness, Love and a Carefree attitude!

Hunter & Guinness - Wisdom vs. Youth

Wisdom vs. Youth – The age-old battle between Wisdom (full of experience and patience) vs. Youth (full of energy and troubling-making – in this case). Hunter (wisdom) and Guinness (youth) were the perfect opposites.

They are both German Shorthair Pointers. Hunter is 6 years old and Guinness just had a doggie 1st birthday. Here is Guinness and his big ol' happy tongue smile -

Their owner, Melissa commented that the breed is usually a pretty *quiet* breed but in the case of Guinness ~ he is happy to bark away his thoughts and concerns.

At one point, Hunter started walking down the garden steps in a crouched down position (literally – Hunter was “hunting”). I look over to my left to see what little furry creature Hunter was hunting and guess who it was? Guinness!!! Guinness was oblivious to the situation and was happily looking across the street with his big pink slobbery tongue hanging out of his mouth!

After the shoot, Guinness decided that he needed a little stretch...I wish I could do that!

I also got a series of Guinness "bum shots"....

The morning was filled with laughter and silliness with these two! Thanks Melissa!

Cat Fest 2009 Denver Dumb Friends League

Magic was in the air on Saturday at the Denver Dumb Friends League....Thanks to my fab new friend Mark Hayes from Mark Hayes Photography http://markhayesphotography.com/ I had a prime spot at the Cat Fest 2009. It was a pretty classic Colorado "oven hot" day but thankfully I had an awesome "booth buddy" - Jess from City Bark www.citybark.com. Surprisingly, I did not see too many cats (they put them in the little kitty cartons with holes) except for this little guy, Rain. He stopped by the booth for a few minutes to dazzle everyone with his beautiful kitten eyes.

I also got to meet a "virtual" friend, Mary Blanton http://www.2dogtrail.com. A happy soul with a beautiful smile and a positive glowing attitude. ;-) I think maybe that would reflect in her positive dog training biz. Thanks Mary for stopping by! And yes - I promise to *crash* one of your poodle BBQs in the near future.

Overall the day was fantastic and full of laughter, finding ways of staying cool, sharing carrots sticks with Jess, and stories of *sassy* cats. Thank you everyone for visiting my booth at Cat Fest 2009!

"Hairless in Denver" - Sally, Bop, Nick & Tiera

Four Hairless beauties took center stage last Saturday morning in Ken Caryl valley in the Rocky Mountains. Sally, Bop and Nick (all Chinese Crested) and Tiera (a Pervian Inca Orchid – sounds like some mysterious foreign flower, right?) showed up very early in their tie-dye pj’s . Their owners were armed with Cheerios and leashes.

Sally (the odd-eyed Chinese Crusted) was not so happy to see me. She is definitely the “ring leader” and lets all strangers or other unknown four-legged animals that she will “fix their wagon” if they get to close. Here owners informed me that she was not socialized by her breeders (an older couple) so she mostly sticks with her parents and other dog buddies at home.

Bop, her son is happy to follow behind Sally as the wind tosses his stunning mane to and fro.

Nick is the sweetest of the bunch and is happy to please.

Tiera towers over the others with beautiful rose and slate legs. Her ears are HUGE (I was in heaven! Well…when am I not in heaven on a shoot!) Sonja the owner mentioned that Tiera was mistaken for a deer (?!?!?!?) at a hotel at one time.

The “hairless” crew was definitely very busy but once everyone “took off their clothes” and our treat of choice (Cheerios) was displayed – everyone enjoyed the morning and got their close-up….right here….”Hairless in Denver”.

Cat Fest 2009 Denver Dumb Friends League

I just got accepted to set up "shop" at the Cat Fest 2009 with the Denver Dumb Friends League July 11th 10-3pm! Here is the Denver Dumb Friends League website: http://www.ddfl.org/. I really love this organization because they do so much for the community and their facility is Top-Notch. The animal's well-being ALWAYS comes first...they rock (end of story).
I will be taking pictures of cats who stop by the booth so please bring your kitty (I have a hair and makeup person on staff for this event - ha, ha). Also if you book a "Close to Home Package" then 5% of the proceeds goes to the Denver Dumb Friends League to help other kitties that need warm and safe homes!

I hope to see everyone there! Now who should I showcase in my booth....choices....choices... ;-) Any suggestions?

Henry & Chloe on the Scene!

Are you a “Diva” or a “Lighthearted” Soul? An exquisite “Diva”, Chloe and the “Lighthearted” Soul, Henry walked into my life last week. The beginning of the morning started off with Henry trying to figure a way back into his Natalie’s bedroom so he could curl up in a little warm ball under her bed away from this new “stranger danger” in his house.

Chloe took one look at me and decided that she might consider “tolerating” my existence for the hour (what a Diva!). I once heard this quote and it is very applicable to Chloe, “Dogs have Owners and Cats have Staff”. I have a tortoise myself and understand the high standards they expect of their “staff” (which includes other cats or dogs in the house too!).

Henry decided that he needed to hide but I had a few tricks up my sleeve...

And of course - I have to add an ear pic in here. I have an "unhealthy" addiction to the sensation of cold cat ears!

After introducing toys with feathers and cat-nip bananas everyone calmed down a bit. Of course at the end of the session, guess who curled up in a little warm ball under Natalie’s bed?

Jamie does it every day with her sweet and highly eclectic group of 5 dogs in beautiful Sunshine Canyon in Boulder County. I dubbed her home “dog heaven” with incredible views of the mountains, lots of room to chase your tail and even a place to get a little exercise in the doggie obstacle course down the hill.

The lineup includes: Enzo, a Brussells Griffon, and quite the ham. He is ALWAYS ready for a closeup and would like to be involved with anything the bigger boys are doing.

Ellie- Dutch Shep mix, a quote from their owner, “kinda like a junkyard dog”. She is a 14 year old sweetheart that Jamie saved from a shelter in Florida (she was in the shelter for 6 years until Jamie saved her!). She keeps her distance but always has a kiss ready for Jamie.

Buddy is an American Bulldog “X- big mooselike” according to Jamie. She was spot on! He is a big lover that plays “WUBBA” ALL DAY if he could! (I love the wrinkles on his back legs!)

Charlie, a Golden Retriever, has a heart of gold (what golden doesn’t?). He spent the morning bounding between the rocks, chewing on sticks that were WAY TOO BIG for him and digging random holes with Enzo.

Our last (and most shy) was Matzo. She is a Staffordshire Bull terrier, “low rider weight-pulling dog” according to Jamie. Jamie rescued her from an owner who left her in a “backyard to rot”. She had no intention of letting me even get 10 feet near her! She kept an eye on me the whole time. I needed to get out the long lens for her to even get a shot! I did get maybe 5 shots after I climbed in between some boulders. She came right up to the other side of the boulders and posed – it was so perfect!

What an amazing group of pooches! Now I still need to figure out how Jamie can separate her heart 5 ways when each dog could easily fill one person’s heart completely…

Fresh & New

Yes - switching over to a new blog name is like starting over...a fresh start....opening a new bag of seafood-favored dog treats (I actually prefer the bacon-favored ones - maybe because I have a slight obsession with Ready-To-Eat Bacon). It is so good....when it touches your lips... Anyway - I feel NEW and FRESH with my new blog name (I ditched the Green Paws Photography name). I have included a lovely picture for this post to kick off the blog...it is a picture of the Old Navy Ferris Wheel in Chicago. My little boy and husband were in one of the cars and I took this picture while holding my 1 year old at the time. I have so many things to be thankful for and this is only the beginning....
